If you make sure teachers are in a constant state of stress and exhaustion, you can ensure that education will not come close to reaching its potential. I remember about 15 years ago my cousin, who had worked for McKinsey, asked me what we were going to do about all the bad teachers. Undermining public education (K12) was part of the privatization playbook. As an exhausted new teacher, who understood even then that I was being gaslit, I figured I would stick around and try to keep telling the kids the truth. I’ve always been a rebel, but I’m a really tired rebel now.
